Paloma Photography started out in the early 1950s as VB STUDIO with offices along JM Basa Street, Iloilo City. It was then owned by Mr. Joe Paloma, the elder brother of VERO G. PALOMA who was then Assistant to his brother. He later took a correspondent course in photography from the New York institute of photography.
When the family of Mr. Joe Paloma moved to Manila, Vero G. Paloma took over the business of VB Studio in the early 1960s. Then as now, it has been the official photographer of many school yearbooks in the city of Iloilo. At that time, black and white was the only medium in photography. Even weddings were done in black and white. To produce a color photograph, one has to paint each picture with watercolor.
The influx of color film in the early 1970s revolutionized the photography business. Producing a color photograph was no longer the painstaking process that it once was. A roll of color film is simply loaded into a camera, have it processed in the laboratory and photos come out in color. When the studio moved to a new location just across the street, it became known as PALOMA COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY.
The studio got the name PALOMA PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO ARTIST in 1984 when it moved to the first mall in Iloilo City, the Amigo Commercial Complex at Iznart Street. Meanwhile, Mr. Paloma traveled to the United States and updated his skills and learned new techniques and applied them to his own studio when he came back. His son, VERO J. PALOMA, JR. who has been living in the US also furthered his knowledge of photography by taking up courses in the renowned Winona School of Photography in Chicago and under such noted photographers as Monte Zucker, Denis Reggie, Ed Pierce and Ann Kendall Monteith. He came home to help in the business when his father fell ill.
In 1997, the business was incorporated into PALOMA PHOTOGRAPHY, INC. With his father's illness and subsequent passing away, Vero Jr. came home to the Philippines for good in 1999 and took over the reins of the business.
The main thrust of Paloma Photography is in providing high quality photographs to its customers and appreciation of portraiture as an art. In 2003 Paloma Photography pioneered in the use of digital photography for wedding coverage and yearbook pictures. It set the trend in what is known as magazine layout of wedding albums.
Through the years, Mr. Vero G. Paloma made the business grow and established long-standing relationships with his customers. He imparted to his children and staff the value of nurturing customer relationships and quality of service such that up to now many of his customers have remained loyal to Paloma Photography.
Paloma Photography is now located at 143-B Burgos Street, Iloilo City with telephone number (+6333) 337-5798.
